“Like our lives, glass presents us with a dichotomy: an entity that is strong while being fragile at the same time.”

“Through my designs and execution, I strive  for my work to illustrate these seemingly contradictory qualities.”

Mama’s Garden

“Working with glass presents many challenges, challenges I thrive on as I explore and push the limits of this mystifying medium. I was inspired to create Mama’s Garden in honor of my mother, a kind woman with a green thumb. She loved having fresh flowers on the table and was always saddened as they wilted and died. This body of work preserves a brief moment in nature so others can appreciate it for a lifetime.”

Colorful tulips with red, orange, and dark burgundy petals grow from a rocky wooden base.

“Adding a raw, earthy element, I mount my pieces on wood that has been ravaged by the forces of nature. I find its weathered appearance further enhances the beauty of my sculptures and adds a sense of permanence to each installation.

Some of my most enjoyable moments away from the studio are walks along Lake Erie’s beaches, regardless of the season, looking for that special piece of driftwood to add to my collection. I can almost picture the flower that will be elevated on its pedestal one day.”

Complex Murrini
Floral Beads

“My fascination with flowers continues in this body of work. Prior to making each bead, I spend hours producing complex canes of glass that I cut into slices and embed into the core of the bead. Covering the slices with layers of clear glass gives the illusion of 3D flowers floating in their own impressionistic garden.”

You can purchase these beads to incorporate into your own jewelry or as a stand-alone piece of art.

Seashells

“I was raised on the New Jersey shore and spent about a month each winter in Miami Beach. Later in life I became a Scuba diver and have always been fascinated by the beauty and intricacy of shells and sea creatures.”

“When I started blowing these shells, I spent weeks experimenting with different approaches, seeking to approximate the subtle colors and shapes found in nature.”

The process was quite demanding, but I rarely give up on a worthwhile challenge. I hope you agree that I succeeded in making shells that look quite real.“

Childhood

A colorful glass sculpture of a joyful boy on a large rock.

“My Childhood body of work consumes me in a way that none has before. Not having children of my own, memories of my (extra)ordinary childhood resided quietly in the back of my mind. There was no one I could share them with; no one I could teach to fish, play kickball, or hunt for frogs. Through this heartfelt series, “my kids” are celebrating the innocence of youth while enjoying precious moments from my childhood.

If there's a scene from your life that is special to you, please contact me. I'd be delighted to work with you to create your memories in glass.”
